THE LAST HOORAH

Today I went on a road trip with my mama to collect my wedding dress (YAY). Kat took Taylor to his parents place to hang with her other granny and aunties. Before we jetted off in opposite directions I managed to convince him to take some snaps. As a result I am now home alone drinking red wine and eating corn chips while rewatching The Proposal while he’s out with the boy… i’m not sure that was an entirely fair trade.. but nevermind.

With Taylor having a sleepover elsewhere tonight I have had plenty of time to catch up on blogs and edit some photos.. turns out I can’t edit my hair to a colour I like.. looks a little brassy no matter what I do… I am very tempted to pop to the supermarket to buy some colour.. good thing i’ve had one to many wines and won’t be driving anywhere.. I’m sure its just as bad to drink and dye!

These days I am a total fan of any picture where my Taylor and I are walking hand in hand.

I even managed to snap a few pictures of Kat… If anyone is curious as to what he’s wearing… you’ll have to ask!! The main this I can see from  reviewing today’s pictures is… a trip to the hairdresser may be in order…

Well kids, that’s what we wore today.. to see plenty of other style inspiration be sure to check out what’s going on over at Harpers Happenings.

in other very sad news.. the jeans featured in this post died last night, I shall have to go out and buy another pair to console myself…

THIS WEEK vol. 1

Some highlights…

I found Cherry Flavoured Dr Pepper at the supermarket – verdict: not a fan

I got a new reusable drink bottle.. which is quite heavy when full, Taylor dropped it on her big toe, which is now black and blue.. hence the band aid

I also had lunch in the sun and took some pretty amazing pictures  on my non phone camera… That chilean volcano ash cloud sure makes for some beautiful sunsets

I went to see Bridesmaids – the movie, SO FUNNY.. was great to have a mid week girls nite

I am VERY excited about this coming week because I have the entire week off work! I have so many adventures planned for me and my little lady. To check out what other peeps have been up to this week check out the linky over at A Good Life blog!

NITPICKING

… that’s how Kat and I spent last night.. not making snide remarks at each other… but literally picking nits out of our 1 year old daugthers locks. It makes me itchy just thinking about it. I didn’t think we’d have to deal with this sort of thing since our baby isn’t in preschool/school and hanging around other kidlets.. obviously I thought wrong.

Last Sunday we went to Kat’s parents place for Sunday lunch, I noticed that Nu’u had her hair straightened, I was then advised that she had nits… I never really though much of it.. I never expected they would jump across the room into my daughters hair!!! But they did.

We spent last night trying to pick at the nits, vacuuming Taylors head and googling other treatments.. I don’t want to have to put chemicals on her little head. If anyone out there has any ideas for kicking them to the curb PLEASE let me know!

WHAT WE WORE WEDNESDAY Vol. 3

Another pretty uneventful day off… had a sleep in, cuddled, read some books, played with some toys.. Taylor climbed… up things, over things, in things.. had some walking practice, then while Taylor munched some toast for breakfast  and while she did that I managed to find a pretty decent outfit for myself…

And Taylor….

After putting this post together I realise outside photos come out WAY better, so next week (weather permitting) we’ll both be froclicking in cute outfits at the back door!!

and that concludes volume 3 of what we wore wednesday!

ITCHY ITCHY, SCRATCHY SCRATCHY

Now Taylor is a year old and getting bigger by the second, I’ve had a major clear out of her wardrobe. All the clothes that are a bit snug these days I squashed into the bag with the rest of her baby wardrobe. She has had more little outfits in her lifetime than I have in mine.. that might be a slight exaggeration.. but you get the idea. The teeniest diaper fell outta the bag and I could barely remember Taylor ever fitting into something that tiny! Feeling nostalgic I decided to look over all the (thousands) of pictures we have taken of her over the past year… Boy has she changed. And I had forgotten how bad her skin used to be. When Taylor was only a few months old, she had terrible skin, her face and body covered in scratches, no matter what type of bath oils or creams we tried, nothing worked. It looked awful. It took me awhile to realise that the horrible  skin kicked in shortly after we switched her to formula – Dairy formula. I tried Goats Milk, Allergy support formula, Lactose free formula.. nothing worked. Her skin was still BAD. We decided to try Soy formula as a last resort.. After a few weeks her skin cleared up. Apparently our baby is allergic to dairy.. which is not at all surprising.. since I am too! She wouldn’t have had dairy in her diet while she was being Breast Fed.

Recently her skin had started to flare up again. It turns out Kat had told his parents it was ok for them to give her icecream and it turns out my mum was also feeding her cheese! Kat, being allergy free, doesn’t understand the impact even one bowl of icecream can have on someone who would normally eat a dairy free diet. I am the one who has to deal with her upset tummy in the middle of the night and the resulting dirty nappy! Now she is dairy free again and back to her normal self, with smooth chubby cheeks that I can’t help but smother in kisses whenever I see her!

CAN’T FEEL MY TOES…

It appears I have forgotten how to dress for winter.

Today I managed ok… because the only time we left the house was to drive to my parents place with Taylor to hang in front of their fire. I didn’t fare as well on Friday… It became chillingly obvious, very quickly that I was NOT wearing the right clothes. It was 1 degree (celcius) out and I had shoes but no socks, two lightweight tops, a jacket, jeans and a floral scarf. There is not an ounce of wool or polypropolene on my body. I’m 28 years old.. you would have thought I’d know what to wear when the temperature drops.. It happens every year… and I even spent a winter in Ontario, Canada where the temperatures got to -25 (celcius!).

I was thinking back to last winter.. for the early stages I was heavily pregnant and I wore mainly leggings and cardigans – cooking a baby kept me fairly warm 24/7. I had a winter coat.. it didn’t fit.. I didn’t need it. It’s lucky that the internal incubator was doing its job because I spent my days in sandals.. and even they barely fit my pre-eclamp-sick feet! The rest of the winter I was at home cuddling with my new born baby, heat-pump on high and since I was on house arrest (again thanks to the pre-eclampsia) I didn’t venture out much and therefore didn’t need to change outta my new mama uniform of pj’s and dressing gown!

I have discovered a while ago that personal style blogs are a FANTASTIC way to get outfit ideas.. and even better is that for the past few months I have been witnessing the cute winter outfit ideas in the northern hemisphere and now I can finally try them!

During yesterdays (speed) walk I listed things in my head that I needed to add to my current wardrobe so I make it through the winter. I don’t want to end up with heaps of clothes that don’t make outfits (as I mentioned here ). I recently purchased the Lauren Conrad Style book off Amazon, and it has some really good ideas in it.. but it’s not really that helpful heading into the NZ winter, when she dresses like a california girl! I have a long list, but I can basically it reads: BUY WOOLLEY STUFF!

So yeah.. even after I spent the last night organising my clothes into outfits I still have a few things to buy… BUT I am very thankful that I have this in my wardrobe:

I love this coat. Mainly because its NOT black…. But also because it’s cute and comfy and will hopefully still look fashionable next season and beyond.

I am WAY better at dressing Taylor for these chillier days… she can pull off hot pink knitted tops much better than I can…. ( and red… and grey knitted things!!)

Got some good/brilliant/fantastic/amazing news about my tax refund this morning so i’m off continue online shopping.. shhh don’t tell Kat.. (but incase you’re reading this LOVEYOUHONEYMUFFINPOOKIEXOXO)

NAME DROPPING.

About this time last year Kat and I had a list of names on our fridge, spelled out with magnetic letters. The list contained our top baby girl names… It took us a very long time to whittle the names down to the top three, Taylor, obviously the name we selected… wasn’t in that list… to this day I have no idea where it came from. Kat is adamant it was my idea, and vice versa.

Sofia was on the list from day one, but Taylor wasn’t even in the running. I had my heart set on Harper (which is becoming a bit more common these days.. damn celebrities making names popular!)… the only problem being Samoan baby daddy pronounced it Harbour… and he kicked up a fuss about not being able to pronounce his own child’s name.. which is a valid point, a point which I will let him have since that means I won’t have to have a child with a Samoan name that I can’t pronounce!

Choosing a non Samoan name also slightly offended Kat’s mum, because we wouldn’t be naming her first granddaughter after her… her name being Fale (Fah-Lee), which in Samoan means House!  My mum didn’t seemed to fussed we weren’t naming our baby girl after her. My mum’s name is Erelyn, she had variations on that all her life and her main wish was for us to give our child a regular name. I’m not big on family names anyways.

Also high on the list were: Zara and Sienna. I didn’t want a name that was too common in New Zealand, so lots of nice names were off the list from the get go. I think in the end Kat got sick of me changing my mind and I felt like Taylor was the only name we could agree on. Kat think’s our next babies will all have Samoan first names… ummm NO.

It has taken me almost a year to come to terms with the fact that Taylor is Taylor… (and I still have days, like today, when I wish I could change it).  Kat has said we will just have to have more babies if there are other names that I like. Not wanting to fall into the same trap as last time I now have a boy’s name and a girl’s name stored securely in my head. Kat has agreed to the boys name… with a Samoan middle name… well we are still in discussions as to the order of things, but since i’m not even pregnant yet, that’s not big deal.

As I mentioned before, he thinks that our next baby girl will be named after his mother. I refuse. That particular name I don’t even want to have as a middle name! I don’t want o offend his family, but we live in NZ and everyone knows a Fale is a house and it’s already confusing enough that there are two or three generations of every name.

When I was pregnant with Taylor there were a few other girls names we agreed on. This time I think we just need to keep all the names to ourselves and not let others influence our opinions. The one baby girl name I have my heart set on has since become the name  of Kat’s good friends son… But I won’t let that stop me. Kat want’s three kids, where as I only want two.. so giving in on the names I prefer would be a nice compromise… maybe…

All this talk of babies names has made my ovaries twitch… I might go think about popping out the next one.. Obviously it won’t be too soon. We have our wedding coming up in March and now I have the perfect dress, which a bump won’t fit under…
